My Evaluation of the Preliminary filming task
The task objective was to create a short clip which presents a character walking from on side of a room to the other side. The group of three I was in completed this task through the concept of having a criminal walk in to a room where a detective begins to question him. The requirements for the task were to include the following shots: 180 degrees rule, shot reverse shots and match on match editing.
A point within the piece which I feel went well was the storyboard and planning part of the process; which is what we did before we, even, started filming. In having a storyboard, we knew all the shots we wanted to make before we made them, and as a result of that, we were able to be a lot more clinical with our shots and we also saved a lot of time. It was also interesting to see that our initial thoughts of specific shots weren't exactly as we thought, when we were planning the storyboard, in comparison to when we actually began filming. An example of this being a shot we wanted to capture when the criminal pulls out his chair. Although it made sense to us while we were making the storyboard; when it came to actually filming the shot didn't fit into the storyline so we had to cut it out and skip on to the next shot.
We had a slight continuity problem around the start of the piece. This stemmed from, us, trying to show a single aspect of story, in too many separate shots. The aspect was the criminal entering the room and being pushed in the back by the guard. The problem with it was; we had the first shot showing his feet enter the room, then the next, showed his back entering, again, at the same position which stopped the onwards flow because the shot was, essentially repeated but at a different perspective. As a result of that continuity mistake, that little sequence where the criminal enters the room became confusing to watch. However, that was a valuable mistake and next time we'll know better.

To conclude, we were able to complete the task, with a good standard of filming and all the shots completed. For future reference, it would have been good to add some titles, at the start, and, possibly, credits at the end. Nevertheless, for a preliminary task I feel as if it went well.
